Stuart Rosenberg, Department Coordinator
I once counted all the jobs I had had from the age of 16 until I began to teach in 1992: there were over twenty; most were menial, hourly positions that drove me crazy (then I drove my employer crazier). I've worked every job in a restaurant except bartender, driven a cab in Boston, collected trash, sprayed trees, and worked in a revival movie theatre (that was actually okay for a while).
But teaching is the only job I have ever loved, and fourteen years into it, my passion continues. I truly enjoy spending time in the classroom with my students, tackling the questions and issues that arise in what are always lively classes. I even, if there aren't too many at once, enjoy grading and commenting on papers.
I teach composition, literature, creative writing, film and screenwriting. Poetry, fiction and film are my life's blood (along with music, great food and wine, my wife and son and our cats). I write, I read, I study films. I bring this passion to the classroom. I want my students to wake up to what is around them, to learn to see it and appreciate it, and to think critically about it. My classes are lively, full of humor, challenges, and spirit..

This is not me, though it is, perhaps, (as my students know) not an entirely unreasonable facsimile. Let us say, "It represents what might have been had I not chosen to become a teacher." |
Worthwhile questions to ponder on worthwhile subjects at an appropriate moment...
Why have I mounted these four images here? Why call attention to these two fine directors?
Why, of Antonioni's films, should I advertise these two? Would Bergman have chosen similarly?
hhhmmm
