University Transfer Achievement Program

How to Apply

Modgroup

Step One- Fill out a college application

Students wishing to attend classes at Cypress College must first submit an online application for admission. This application can be found at the link "Apply Online" to the right. Students cannot take the assessment test (step two) until they have applied for admission to the college.

Step Two- Take the college assessment test

In order to enroll in UTAP, students must be eligible for English 60. Students establish their eligibility by taking the college assessment tests in the Assessment Center, located in room B-112 in the Business Building. Call the Assessment Center at (714) 484-7223 to get an updated schedule of assessment testing dates and times.

Students who place in English 58 may still come into the program if they take and pass English 58 during the summer. Students are encouraged to contact UTAP for more information about this.

Step Three- Attend a UTAP orientation

UTAP holds a series of orientations throughout the spring and summer. In order to enroll in the program, students must attend one of these mandatory orientations. During the orientation, students will receive information on the full scope of UTAP, submit an application, and receive counseling as to how to prepare for their first semester of college. Students will also get information on how to apply for financial aid, EOPS, and BOG fee waivers.

Once a student has attended one of these orientations and met the English eligibility requirement, s/he will be accepted into the program. Since UTAP has a seat limitation, students are encouraged to attend an orientation as soon as possible in order to secure a spot in the program.

Call the UTAP office at (714) 484-7156 for orientation dates and times. You may also contact Mary Forman, UTAP faculty, at mforman@cypresscollege.edu

Step Four- Attend the UTAP Kickoff

Just prior to the beginning of the fall semester, students will attend the UTAP Kickoff. The Kickoff will present motivational speakers and give students the opportunity to meet their UTAP peers, faculty, Peer Mentors, and Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) tutors. Students will also receive additional registration assistance, a campus tour, and advice on how to prepare for the first week of classes. Students will be given Kickoff information at the first orientation, after they have been accepted into the program.
