Before becoming a full-time instructor at Cypress College in 2000, I taught
part-time at both Cypress College and Goldenwest College. I am an alumni of
Goldenwest College, and I received my BA and my MA from California State University,
Fullerton. Though my emphasis as a graduate student was creative writing,
I also had many classes in Shakespeare and Early Modern Drama. I played a
part in establishing the "As You Like" Shakespeare Society at CSUF,
while serving as vice-president and then president. In addition, I was editor
of the Shakespeare Society journal, As We Like It. I have participated in
many conferences, with the highlight being an invitation to read my work at
the International Marlowe Society Conference in Cambridge, England.
My goal as an instructor is to facilitate critical thinking and strong writing
skills. I am always looking for ways in which my students can connect their
writing assignments to the world around them and the world at large. This
not only enhances critical thinking skills and social awareness, which are
essential for college success, but this also makes for some interesting writing
assignments. I want my students to care about the words and ideas that they
formulate into an essay, and in all of the different classes that I teach,
I believe that what my students have to say is important.
