English 60 is a course designed to prepare students for English 100. The emphasis is on expository writing including paragraph structure and essay development. The fundamentals of English written expression are reviewed.

Prerequisite:
Acceptable score on placement test, English 58 with a grade of "C" or better, or ESL 186 with a grade of "C" or better.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

Course Guidelines

  • In order to continue to English 100, students must pass this course with a grade of "C" or better.
  • To do so, students must satisfy the requirements of the course by completing the writing assignments as well as assigned pages in the workbook. Graded assignments will be averaged and will constitute 75% of the course grade. (Keep in mind that any project not submitted will receive a failing grade). The final examination will be given in class during the second-to-last class meeting and will constitute 25% of the course grade.
  • Individual workbook pages will be submitted during the course. Students who fail to complete and hand in daily workbook assignments will be dropped from the course. Upon completion of required sections, the entire workbook will be submitted for grade assessment.
  • Attendance in class is mandatory. Students are permitted three absences during the course of the semester without affecting their grade. Non-attending and non-participating students will be dropped from the course.
  • No late papers will be accepted and there will be no provisions for extra credit.
  • Students may be asked to spend time outside of class in the Writing Lab for additional assistance located in room 324.
  • Students must purchase loose leaf lined paper for assignments and class work. Torn notebook sheets or sloppy papers will not be accepted.
  • Academic Honesty: The college policy is outlined in the campus catalog. Students are responsible for observing the ethical standards set forth in this document.
